Quick checks before you call

Quick checks before you call

  • Check the setting on the humidity control (humidistat).
  • For a whole-house humidifier, check that the water valve to it is open.
  • For a dehumidifier, check that the drain line is not blocked or the bucket is not full.
  • Check the filter: a clogged filter limits airflow. Replace it if it is visibly dirty.

Your home’s comfort depends on more than temperature. If the air feels dry and irritating in winter or sticky and heavy in summer, humidity is the reason. SquareHVAC is based in Hillside and serves communities within approximately 30 road miles. We install, repair and maintain whole-home humidifiers and dehumidifiers.

Why humidity control matters

The EPA recommends keeping indoor relative humidity between 30% and 50% (US EPA, checked October 2026). Midwest weather pushes your home to both ends of that range.

Humidifier services

Whole-house humidifier installation

A whole-house humidifier connects to the HVAC system and adds moisture to the air as it circulates — every room, not just the one with a portable unit. It protects wood floors, furniture and instruments, reduces static, and makes the air feel warmer at the same thermostat setting.

We assess the home’s size, ductwork and comfort needs to recommend the right capacity.

Humidifier repair

If an existing humidifier is not producing moisture, leaking or making noises, we diagnose and fix the problem. We service the major whole-house brands.

Humidifier maintenance

A maintenance visit before the heating season covers cleaning, filter replacement and calibration, so the unit does not grow mold or bacteria.

Dehumidifier services

Whole-house dehumidifier installation

A whole-house dehumidifier works alongside the air conditioning to remove excess moisture. The home feels cooler and less clammy, mold and dust mites get less to live on, and the air conditioner does not have to do all the dehumidifying on its own. Homes with basements or damp crawl spaces benefit most.

Dehumidifier repair

Running constantly without removing moisture, freezing up, or failing to drain — we troubleshoot and repair all of these.

Dehumidifier maintenance

Annual maintenance cleans the coils, checks the refrigerant, inspects the drain line and verifies airflow.

Common questions about humidifiers and dehumidifiers

Can I use both?
Yes. Many homes use a humidifier in winter and a dehumidifier in summer, because Midwest air swings from one extreme to the other.
Are whole-house systems better than portable units?
They treat the whole home instead of one room, and they run automatically with the HVAC system instead of needing a tank emptied or refilled. Portable units are a reasonable start for a single problem room.
How much does installation cost?
The cost depends on the home size, the existing ductwork and the model chosen. We assess the system, explain what we found and provide a written quote for approval before work begins.
