Plan a heating maintenance visit

Quick checks before you call

  • Check the thermostat: is it set to heat, and is the set point above the room temperature?
  • Check the filter: a clogged filter limits airflow. Replace it if it is visibly dirty.
  • Check the power: look at the breaker and the switch on or near the furnace.
  • Check the furnace door: the front panel must be fully closed for the furnace to start.
  • Check the airflow: hold a hand at a supply register and feel whether warm air is moving.

Signs to call us about

Signs you may need a new heating system

  • The system is old and a main part has failed
  • It needs a repair every winter
  • Rising energy use despite a consistent thermostat setting
  • Uneven heating: some rooms too hot or too cold
  • Strange noises: banging, rattling or squealing from the unit
  • Visible rust or cracks in the heat exchanger (a safety hazard)
  • A yellow burner flame instead of blue

When the old furnace cannot keep up — or a main part has failed on a system near the end of its life — a new system is the better path. SquareHVAC is based in Hillside and serves communities within approximately 30 road miles. We install furnaces, boilers and heat pumps, sized to the home and installed to the manufacturer’s specifications. Serving homeowners and businesses since 2009.

What we install

Furnaces

Gas and electric furnaces are the most common heating systems in Hillside homes. We work with all major brands and match the system to the home’s size, layout and ductwork. Not sure which efficiency to choose? Our guide to 80% vs 96% AFUE furnaces explains the venting, the drain and the running cost clearly.

Boilers

For homes with radiators or baseboards, we install boilers that deliver steady, draft-free heat. See hydronic heating explained for how water-based heating works.

Heat pumps

A heat pump heats and cools in one system. We install ducted systems and ductless mini-splits. Our guide on heat pump ratings explains which heating score matters in a cold climate.

Heat pump with a furnace backup (dual fuel)

A heat pump can share the job with a furnace. The heat pump heats the home on milder days, and the furnace, gas or oil, takes over when it gets very cold. This pairing is often called dual fuel. It can make sense when you already have a working furnace and want to add a heat pump. We look at your furnace, ducts and wiring, and explain whether the pairing fits your home.

If your home still has an old gravity furnace, read gravity furnace vs forced air before you decide.

What the cost depends on

An installation price depends on the system chosen, the home’s ductwork and electrical and gas connections, access to the equipment, and whether anything worn needs replacing at the same time. Our guide on what HVAC repair costs and what drives the price explains how to think about the numbers.

The written quote

We explain what we found and what it costs, in writing, with parts and labor listed separately. You review it; you decide. Work only begins once you approve.

What happens during the installation

  1. Step 1

    We assess the home.

Square footage, insulation, windows and existing ductwork. Proper sizing matters: an oversized system short-cycles and wears out early, an undersized one runs constantly and never reaches temperature.

  2. Step 2

    We recommend options.

We explain the systems that fit, with the pros and cons of each in clear language.

  3. Step 3

    You get a written quote.

We assess the system, explain what we found and provide a written quote for approval before work begins, with parts and labor listed separately.

  4. Step 4

    Installation day.

We remove and dispose of the old system, install the new one to the manufacturer's specifications, make any needed duct changes, install the thermostat, and test the system before we leave.

  5. Step 5

    We walk you through it.

We show you how the system and thermostat work and when to change the filter.

Common questions about heating installation

Can I install a heating system myself?
No. Heating systems involve gas lines, electrical work and venting that must meet safety codes. Improper installation risks carbon monoxide exposure and fire.
Can you help with rebates?
We can help you identify utility or manufacturer rebates that are available when you replace equipment. Programs and eligibility change, so we check what applies at the time of your quote.
How can I prepare my home for installation day?
Clear a path to the furnace or boiler location, keep pets in another area, and make sure the electrical panel and gas shutoff are reachable.
